PROCESS AND DEVICE FOR COMPACTING POWDERY MATERIALS

The process for compacting powdery materials is initiated by a pressure shock whereby a shock D1 acts at time t1 on the surface of the powdery material and at the same time a shock is applied at time t2 to a region of the powdery material at a distance from said surface in the direction of the model so that the air introduced in the powdery material by shock D2 has time to escape before the shock D1 reaches the model plate. For this purpose, openings (9) are provided in the model plate between the mould box wall (3) and the model (2). These openings can be arranged along the entire length of the mould box wall and vary in size and number depending on the distance between the mould box wall (3) and the model (2) or on the shape of the model. The advantage of this process lies in the fact that narrow interstices between the mould box wall and model can be efficiently sealed, thus leading to better filling of the mould. The economic advantages of the process are obvious.
