The stainless steel channel section member (20) secured by bolts (24) to the external sheeting (12) of a vehicle, to carry luggage has the edges of its side flanges (28) shaped to grip a resilient buffer strip (34) between them. A horizontally extending free edge (40) of the flange fits into a rectangular groove (48) along the side of the buffer stirp. The free edge is first folded over inwardly, parallel with the flange, and a part of the folded edge (38) is then bent into a horizontal position. An alternative design uses a channel with inwardly sloping flanges. |
