The invention relates to a tubeless yarn or thread bobbin and to a winding apparatus which is suitable for producing it and in which the yarns, threads, twines, twists, etc. to be wound are wound on a thin winding spindle, by means of a mainly open winding flyer, in the form of so-called worms resting closely against one another, and the ready-wound bobbin is covered at the back and front by a label and is held together by means of a shrunk-on foil strip.
