The invention provides a method of forming a dump of particulate waste such as a slurry comprising particulate material in suspension in a liquid. The method is carried out by erecting a fence-like structure on a dump site to define a dam-like containment area. Flexible material is supported on the fence-like structure, and a slurry is discharged into the containment area. Liquid drains from the containment area, either through the material if it is pervious, or into the ground, if the material is impervious, leaving behind the particulate material as a solid fill. When the fill has solidified, the process can be repeated, with a new containment area being defined on top of the fill, so that a dump can be formed in several stages. <IMAGE> |
