<p>The control of the assembly operation of the conical nippled extremity of an electrode to the upper portion of a column of electrodes of an electric arc furnace is carried out by checking the coincidence between a mark carried by said nippled extremity and the homologous mark carried by the upper extremity of the electrode at the top of the column. The coincidence is obtained when the distance between the extremity faces of facing electrodes and the step offset between the thread carrier flanks in mesh are both in conformity with the tolerated values; said coincidence is not affected either by the clearance between the threads in mesh or by a temperature difference between the electrode and the column. The efficiency of the clamping torque applied at the end of the assembly operation may be controlled by monitoring the relative displacement of the marks resulting from the assembly. During the marking operation of the electrodes, it is advised to check the dimensions of the nippled extremity, particularly when the latter is formed by assembling an electrode with a threaded biconical nipple. The incorporation of an equipment for detecting marks carried by the electrodes improves substantially the performances of known devices intended to the assembly of electrodes.</p> |
