<p>Biphenyl derivatives represented by formula (I), process for their preparation, liver trouble-relieving agents containing the derivatives as effective ingredients, and intermediates represented by formula (II) for preparing the derivatives. The compounds of the formula (I) are prepared by reacting an alkyl gallate with a methylating agent, halogenating the product, mono-dehalogenating the product to prepare the intermediate (II), methylating it, coupling the product according to the Ullmann reaction, and reacting the product with lead tetraacetate, wherein R1 and R2 each represents H or CH3, and X represents a halogen atom.</p> |
