PURPOSE:To obtain a base for optical recording media, low in coloration and water absorptive and excellent in durability, by forming a thin organosilane film on the surface of a transparent plastic base by plasma-reacting a specified organosilicon compound. CONSTITUTION:At least one compound selected from those of formula I (wherein n is 0 or 1-4, R is a 1-8C alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl or the like) or of formula II (wherein Z is a direct bond, -O- or -NH- and R is a 1-8C alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy or the like), e.g., diethoxydiphenyl-silane or hexapropyldisiloxane) is prepared. The purpose base for optical recording media can be obtained by forming a thin organosilane film having a silicon/carbon/oxygen atomic ratio of 1/0.1-10/0.1-5 and an oxygen/carbon atomic ratio >=0.2 on the surface of a transparent plastic base by plasma-reacting said compound together with, optionally, oxygen gas added. |
