Chain or cable harnesses are used to remove the supports of the joint segments of gallery roof support frames. The said harnesses are connected to the joint segments and pulled out of the gallery level with the lifting gear using the adjacent roof support frames as counterbearings. In this process, the joint segments can be bent or twisted. The invention provides at least one support-removing cylinder 22 which is supported at the level of the roadway, tunnel or gallery 5 and is pivotably connected to support-removing tongs 26 which can be connected to the joint segment 3 in a clamping fashion and displaced vertically. At the head of the support-removing tongs 26, a pivotable segment support 32 for the joint segment 3 is provided. A counterbearing plate 9 which bears the support-removing tongs 26 can be pivoted about a vertical axis 10 together with the support-removing cylinder 22 and the segment support 32. <IMAGE>
