The housing (10) which is produced from aluminium has the form of an annular trough with the central sleeve (11) in which one limb (28) of the closed iron core (27) is plugged and on which the primary winding (24), with the secondary winding (22), is pushed. The remaining cavity in the housing (10) is potted in an insulating manner by means of a potting compound (31). In consequence, the heat dissipation of the ignition coil is considerably improved as a result of the large surface of the housing (10) (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
