PURPOSE:To enhance electric charge transfer performance and electrifiability by an amorphous carbide film containing a specified amount of hydrogen for a charge transfer layer. CONSTITUTION:The amorphous carbide film containing hydrogen in an amount of 0.1-67atom% of the total constituent atoms is used as the charge transfer layer, and this films is obtained by plasma polymerizing a gas mixture of a straight chain hydrocarbon, such as an unsaturated hydrocarbon, and cyclic hydrocarbon, such as an aromatic hydrocarbon. If the hydrogen content is <0.1atom%, the transfer performance deteriorates, and proper photsensitivity is not obtained, and if >67atom%, both electrifiability and charge retentivity deteriorate, thus permitting the obtained photosensitive body to be enhanced in electrifiability, charge retentivity, and photosensitivity characteristics.
