PURPOSE:To enhance the emulsifying effect to the title emulsifier on an adhesive, a coating agent, etc., by incorporating a compd. obtained by the emulsion polymerization of an acrylic monomer, etc., and expressed by the specified general formula to prepare the emulsifier for an aq. resin dispersant. CONSTITUTION:Nonylphenol or lauryl alcohol is used as the raw material, the material is heated in the presence of an allyl glycidyl ether catalyst, and an alkylene oxide is added to the reaction product. The product is then diesterified with maleic anhydride, and sulfated by a sulfating agent such as sodium hydrogen sulfite to obtain an emulsifier expressed by formula I {R stands for 8-30C alkyl, alkenyl, alkylaryl, and aralkylaryl groups, A is a 2-4C alkylene, (n) is 0-100 integer, (n) is 1-200 integer, and M shows an alkali metal atom and NH4}.
