<p>: The present invention relates to a network hub element for a star configuration optical network for transferring data among a plurality of data handling stations each connected by a transmission unit to the hub. The hub is comprised of a receiver which is comprised of an optical combiner for additively combining the optical signals received from the transmission units for receiving serial data streams from the stations. A transmitter is provided for transmitting signals to the stations. A data transfer unit is coupled to the receiver and the transmitter for monitoring the data contents of the combined data stream as it is transferred from the receiver to the transmitter. The transfer unit is responsive to the monitored data for selectively generating signals at the transmitter for transmission to selected ones of the data handling stations.</p> |
