PURPOSE:To decrease number of operation buttons and to miniaturize the titled equipment by selecting each mode such as transmission/reception/ copying depending on the presence of an original, presence of recording paper and hooking state with one operation button operated and displaying which mode is to be selected. CONSTITUTION:A relay 13 detects whether or not a handset 12a hooks off and an original detector 14 and a recording paper detector 15 detect the presence of recording paper mechanically or optically. When it is decided that the handset is hooked off and an original is placed, a controller 10 detects it as the sending state to blink a transmission lamp 4. In case of the reception, when it is decided that the haudset is hooked off and the recording paper is placed, the reception lamp 5 is blinked. In case of the copying only, when it is discriminated that the handset is hooked on and the original is loaded and the recording paper is loaded, a copy lamp 6 is blinked. In depressing a pushbutton 7, the lamp is changed from the blinking into the lighting and the mode enters respectively the transmission mode, reception mode and the copy mode.
