PURPOSE:To provide a polyamide having a specific diacetylene group as a recurring unit and easily polymerizable to give a material having extremely high strength and elastic modulus and useful as an electronic material and three-dimensional memory, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective aromatic polyamide contains a diacetylene group of formula (X and X' are H, 1-20C hydrocarbon group or carbonyl, sulfonyl or halogen bonded to said hydrocarbon group; R and R' are 1-20C bivalent aromatic hydrocarbon group; Z is 1-20C bivalent hydrocarbon group; the polymerization degree is integer of >=2) as a recurring unit. Preferably, both X and X' of the formula are H and R and R' are substituted at ortho or meta positions of a benzene ring. The polymerization degree is preferably an integer of >=50.
