PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for perfumery, agricultural chemicals, photo-sensitive resins, etc., suppressing the formation of by-product, in high yield, by reacting a styrene compound, an alcohol, carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a catalyst using a dialkyl carbonate. CONSTITUTION:A styrene compound (e.g. styrene), an alcohol (e.g. methanol), carbon monoxide and oxygen are made to react with each other in the presence of a main catalyst consisting of palladium metal or its compound (e.g. palladium acetate) and a copper compound (e.g. copper chloride) in combination with a cocatalyst and an additive (e.g. manganous acetate) using a dialkyl carbonate having 1-4C alkyl groups (e.g. dimethyl carbonate). The reaction is preferably carried out at 40-160 deg.C under 1-300atm for 0.05-10hr. The raw material may be used as a reaction solvent or ether, nitrile, etc., may be used as the solvent. |
