PURPOSE:To obtain an alkanohydrazonoyl chloride compound by chlorinating a fatty acid arylhydrazide with triphenylphosphine-carbon tetrachloride. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula R1CCl=NNR2R3 (R1 is alkyl or aralkyl; R2 is aryl; R3 is H, alkyl or aryl) can be produced by reacting a fatty acid arylhydrazide compound of formula R1CONHNR2R3 with triphenylphosphine-carbon tetrachloride in an aprotic solvent such as acetonitrile at room temperature for several hr-15hr. The reaction time can be shortened by using 1.5-2.0mol of triphenylphosphine-carbon tetrachloride per 1mol of the raw material and carrying out the reaction at about 70 deg.C.
