PURPOSE:To enhance mass productivity and weatherability and to obtain high sensitivity and high signal quality, by forming a recording layer by successively laminating a selenium layer, a tellurium layer, a palladium layer and a selenium layer to a substrate. CONSTITUTION:Recording laser beam is condensed to a recording layer 21 through a substrate 1 to irradiate the same to form a pit 22. The substrate 1 is formed using a synthetic resin such as polycarbonate, polyolefine, or glass. The substrate 1 is introduced into a vacuum vapor deposition apparatus to evacuate said apparatus and tellurium is put in a first resistance heating boat as an evaporation source and selenium is put in a second resistance heating boat and palladium is put in an electron beam heating crucible to apply the successive vapor deposition of selenium, tellurium, palladium and selenium to the substrate to form the recording layer 21. The thickness of each of upper and lower selenium layers 2, 5 is set to 5-100Angstrom , that of a tellurium layer 3 to 100-500Angstrom and that of a palladium layer 4 to 0.5-50Angstrom . By this method, an optical recording medium excellent in mass productivity and weatherability and having high sensitivity and high signal quality is obtained. |
