PURPOSE:To hold a multidimentional electronic conference and to store and retrieve the conference data and characters and/or graphics drawn on an electronic blackboard by digitally compressing information on the characters and graphics drawn on the blackboard, and storing them. CONSTITUTION:The characters and graphics, etc. drawn on the electronic blackboard 2 are scanned and inputted to a sampling part 22 in form of information signals. The sampling part 22 digitizes the information signals based on sampling signals from a sampling signal generating part 21. That means that, said information of characters and graphics on the board 2 are periodically read in accordance with the inverval set by the sampling signal generating part 21. These digital information signals are converted to a vector in a vector part 23 by taking the variance between the value read immediately before and a currently- read value, i.e. the digital information signals are compressed. This vector information is temporarily stored in a memory part 24, and at the same time is transmitted by a transmission control part 50 to other electronic conference systems through a communication line 6.
