PURPOSE:To obtain a fuel spacer for a nuclear reactor having the corrosion resistance to prevent the generation of nodular corrosion, etc., in particular and having high strength by subjecting a Zr alloy contg. Nb, Sn or Mo or/and Fe in addition thereto respectively at prescribed ratios to final forming then to a heat treatment, thereby substantially annihilating the beta phase in the alloy. CONSTITUTION:The Zr alloy contg., by weight, 1.0-2.5% Nb, 0.5-2.5% Sn, or further 0.1-1.0% Mo or/and 0.04-1.0% Fe is produced by the following method: The above-mentioned Zr alloy is melted by arc melting and is subjected to the final forming, then to the heat treatment at 400-700 deg.C to annihilate the beta phase, by which the objective fuel spacer for the nuclear reactor is obtd. The fuel spacer is obtd. from the Zr alloy having the high strength and high corrosion resistance (nodular corrosion resistance and white corrosion resistance) to permit the application of the conventional production process is obtd. according to the method of this invention.
