PURPOSE:To remarkably reduce a manual operation and to easily translate between plural languages by applying a translation support function to a Japanese word processor. CONSTITUTION:The translation from English to Japanese is carried out by designating a desired word range in a text displayed on the first display area of a display device 3 by a cursor and pressing down an English/Japanese converting key. The candidates of the meaning of the desired word in the range designated by this operation are displayed in the second display area II. When there is no suitable words used in the translation, other word used in the translation is displayed by operating a next candidate key. An user user considers the context of the English text and the meaning relation of Japanese from the candidates, selects a suitable translation and translates into Japanese considering the entire of the formed Japanese text in the third display area III. The Japanese text of the area III is suitably inputted according to the input from the keyboard 2, converted into a KANJI (Chinese character) mixed text according to the necessity and the suitable word used in the translation in the area II can be selectively transferred.
