PURPOSE:To simplify the operation by retrieving a destination having a relay function and a destination having a prescribed relation to the former destination in terms of district and sending the number of the latter destination to the destination having the relay function thereby applying automatic multiple address. CONSTITUTION:Information representing whether or not a facsimile number of a registered number has a relay function is stored also in a telephone number register section 211. A main control section 223 retrieves whether or not a relay function is provided to a destination facsimile equipment represented in an input abbreviation number, and if exists, whether or not a telephone number of the same toll station number as the telephone number having the said relay function is inputted is retrieved. The telephone numbers based on the result of retrieval are grouped and the result is stored again in a retrieved number storage section 217. When the original to be sent is read by a read section 212, the original information in response thereto is outputted as an original data signal 213. The original data signal 213 is fed to a compression/ decoding section 231, and the data compressed in the data compression circuit section is stored in an image memory 233.
