This method, of the type in which a seal made from a pumpable material is laid down with the aid of a gun 4 supplied by a metering pump 6, is characterised in that it consists, on the one hand, in driving the metering pump 6 with the aid of a motor which can stop and start instantaneously, and whose rotational speed, proportional to the volume of material output, is a function of the speed of displacement of the gun 4 for laying down the material and, on the other hand, in maintaining a constant pressure at the inlet of the laying down gun by making use of a pressure reducing accumulator 14 on the supply duct 5 for the material from the pump 6 to the gun 4.
