PURPOSE:To attain automatic redialing even if a line is interrupted due to the deterioration of line state by allowing a MODEM to apply automatic redialing based on a redial instruction parameter in an automatic call command. CONSTITUTION:If the line state is deteriorated and the signal quality is degraded during data communication, the level of an SQ instruction value generated from an SQD 112 gets higher. A redial control section 113 discriminates the quality of the reception signal depending on the SQ instruction value inputted from the SQD 112 and when the quality degrading of the received signal is detected, the section 113 interrupts the line to instruct redialing to an NCU 111 based on the redial instruction parameter in the automatic call command. A MODEM 11 applies redialing and applies reconnection to the same opposite station to which line is interrupted during communication, then the connection by using an excellent line route is attained. Even if the line is interrupted due to the deterioration of the signal quality due to the deteriorated line state on the way of communication, the MODEM applies redialing automatically to the same opposite station to reconnect the line.
