<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the uniform orientation of a large tilt angle of liquid crystal molecules at a low cost in mass production by forming an oriented layer to orient the liquid crystal molecules in one direction of >=2 kinds of high-polymer resins having different properties. CONSTITUTION:A mixed layer 12 blended with the high-polymer resin 12-a which dissolves in a prescribed etching liquid and the high-polymer resin 12-b which does not dissolve therein is formed on a substrate 1. Two kinds of the high-polymer resin phases are dispersed in each other in the mixed layer 12. Fine ruggedness having directivity is formed when the high-polymer resin phase 12-a is etched by the prescribed etching liquid and the surface of the remaining high-polymer resin phase 12-b is subjected to a rubbing treatment in one direction by cloth, etc. The shape of the ruggedness in this case is determined for the greater part by the thickness of the high-polymer resin phase 12-b and the rubbing pressure. The liquid crystal molecules 3 are finally and stably arranged in one direction at the tilt angle theta by the ruggedness having directivity.</p> |
