PURPOSE:To realize a thin film magnetic head with excellent recording efficiency and long service life by placing a tip of a gap toward a coil from a cross point (the cross point inclusive) between a prolonged line of a magnetic layer along the slope of a gap forming part and the prolonged line of the gap. CONSTITUTION:A base end A of a magnetic layer 5 is placed at the cross point between the extension of a slope aa' of a contact part 5a and the surface of a magnetic base 2. If the position of the base end A is toward the coil 4 from the said position, the magnetic resistance is increased, the magnetic characteristic is lowered and if the position is apart from the coil 4, its shape is enlarged. Further, a tip B of the gap 6 is placed at the cross point between the extension of a slope bb' of a gap forming part 5b and the gap line. In this case, the gap depth is a length (d) (=BB') as shown in figure. In forming the gap depth to be the length (d) or below, the tip of the gap 6 is saturated magnetically, the recording efficiency is excellent, while the gap depth is formed to be in excess of the depth (d), the tip of the gap 6 is not saturated magnetically and the recording efficiency is low. |
