PURPOSE:To discriminate the size of images (frames) recorded on a recording medium with a simple constitution by comparing the output of the first detector with that of the second detector to discriminate the size of the image. CONSTITUTION:A transducer 50A detects a mark, and a transducer 50B detects whether there is a gap between the frame having the mark and the frame just below said frame or not. When a desired frame number inputted by a frame number input part 74 coincides with the counted value of a counter 70, a comparing circuit 71 issues a signal. When receiving this signal, a driving system control circuit stops transportation of a film and issues a signal to an amplifying circuit 61 and an AND gate 63. The light is made incident on the photoelectric transducer 50B in case of the frame which has the shorter side in the film feeding direction, but the light is not made incident there in case of the frame which has the longer side in said direction. Consequently, if the signal is inputted to the AND gate 63 from the amplifying circuit 61 when the driving system control circuit 72 outputs the signal, a frame size judging part 73 judges the frame which has the longer side in the film feeding direction; but otherwise, the part 73 judges the frame having the shorter side in the film feeding direction.
