PURPOSE:To greatly reduce the cost of installation. by supplying and discharging rod-like materials into and from a marking press and a label applying machine, and by conveying a plurality of aligned rod-like materials in a line-up condition to stack them. CONSTITUTION:A rod-like material 16 is conveyed in the direction of the arrow A, and when it is stopped at a stop reference position, it is shifted onto a stationary receiving bed 30 by means of a shifting carrier vehicle 1 so that the rod-like material 16 is stamped at its front end face by a marking press 31. Then, thus stamped rod-like material 16 is shifted onto sorting rollers 32 by means of the shifting carrier vehicle 1, and is applied thereon with a label at one end face by means of a label applying machine 33. After label application, it is required that rod-like materials 16 are sorted in accordance with the lengths, diameters and destinations thereof, and therefore, a plurality of sorting zones are provided to sort the rod-like materials 16. In this arrangement, in order to facilitate the bundling and handling of a plurality of the rod-like materials 16 constituting one batch, the sorting rollers 32 are controlled so that the centers of the rod-like materials are substantially aligned with each other, thereby they may be conveyed to predetermined Zoned and aligned.
