PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition excellent in water swellability, water absorptivity, water retentivity and mechanical strength and improved in swelling rate, by mixing a rubber-like elastomer with a highly water-absorptive resin and a water-insoluble and water-absorptive fiber. CONSTITUTION:95-30wt% conjugated diene (e.g., 1,3-butadiene) is block- copolymerized with 5-70wt% vinylaromatic compound (e.g., styrene) in a hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of an anionic polymerization initiator such as an organolithium compound to obtain a rubber-like elastomer (A) of an MW of 5,000-1,000,000 and a tensile modulus of 0.05-5,000kg/cm<2>. 100pts.wt. component A is mixed with 5-200pts.wt. water-absorptive resin (B) (e.g., a product formed by crosslinking an isobutylene/maleic anhydride copolymer with an alkali metal) of a degree of polymerization of 10-3,000 and a water absorption rate of 20-1,000 times and 3-100pts.wt. water-insoluble and water-absorptive fiber (C) of a water absorption rate >=5 times, a fiber diameter of 0.3-300d, a dry strength >=0.2g/d and a length of 1-10mm (e.g., an alkali metal hydroxide salt of acrylonitrile/acrylic acid copolymer fiber).
