PURPOSE:To obtain chewing gum having flexibility and flavor of dryness and porosity, by molding a chewing gum raw material consisting of a gum base, anhydrous crystal maltose and a humectant component and adding water to the raw material so that chewing gum is made porous. CONSTITUTION:A chewing gum raw material containing (A) a gum base, (B) anhydrous crystal maltose and (C) a humectant component is prepared and the raw material is molded into a given shape. Then, the component B in the molded chewing gum raw material is converted into hydrous crystal maltose by water adding process so that chewing gum itself is made into a porous state to give the aimed chewing gum. Sugaralcohol or glycerin and/or thick malt syrup is preferable as the component C.
