PURPOSE:To aim at simplification in a passage structure, by unitizing at least one set of suction and exhaust passages with each other inside a cylinder head between adjacent cylinders rectilinearly placed side by side, and making on-off timing of valves in the said passages so as not to accord with each other. CONSTITUTION:A 3 cylinder fuel injection type spark ignition engine 10 places three cylinders 16 (16A-16C) rectilinearly, and interconnects a combustion chamber of each cylinder to a cylinder head 12, forming suction and exhaust passages 19 and 20 having suction and exhaust valves 17 and 18. these suction and exhaust passages 19 and 20 are set up at the opposite side to each other bordering a line L connecting each cylinder center. In this case, suction passages 19 and 19 at both sides of cylinders 16A and 16B are unitized between adjacent first and second cylinders 16A and 16B, and a branch-like suction pipe line 24A of a suction manifold 21 is interconnected to a converging part 31 of both these suction passages 19. In addition, the suction valve 17 set up in each suction passage 19 unitized should be set so as not to make on-off timing of these valves accord with each other.
