PURPOSE:To enable easy and quick storage, regeneration and modification of image data by mounting a memory regeneration head and a storage medium and driving the storage medium utilizing the main scanning shift of a carriage. CONSTITUTION:A recorder performs recording on a sheet 6 supplied based on image data using a recording head 12 when an ink ribbon cassette 14 is mounted on a carriage which moves for main scanning. When a memory regeneration means, i.e. a memory cassette 30 provided with a magnetic head 35 and a magnetic tape 31 is mounted instead of an ink ribbon cassette, storage and regeneration of image data are performed by driving a storage medium utilizing the main scan shift of the carriage 8. Under this configuration, a comparatively low cost magnetic head 35 and magnetic tape are used in the form of a cassette as a memory regeneration means. Consequently a memory regeneration device obtained is simple to handle, low priced, compact and light-weight. As such it is of extremely simple and small-size structure and capable of data memory regeneration in addition to recording capability.
