The invention relates to a burner and in particular to a radiant burner for a local heating system. In this case, use is made of a thermo-electric ignition arrangement which, in the event of failure of the thermo-electric signal, actuates a closing mechanism of the fuel supply. In order, in the event of receding gas pressure, to avoid a waste gas with physiologically inadmissible, non-combusted components flowing off as a result of insufficient primary air suction, the invention proposes arranging between thermo-element and ignition safety device a pressure monitoring switch which opens the thermo-electric circuit below a given gas pressure so that the ignition safety device is closed.
