So that drivers of delivery vehicles can carry out the information exchange which occurs when goods are delivered outside the vehicle with DP support, and can take and store new orders for goods on site, so that at the end of the trip they can be stored together with vehicle-related and driver-related data in the accounting station of the vehicle fleet and used for transport and freight optimisation, a mobile, small computer (2), which acts as a hand-held terminal and is independently fully functional, can be connected via a serial infra-red interface to the computer (1) inside the vehicle, as the operating part, and for exchange of collected or preset data to be entered about the vehicle, driver, customers and freight. When the small computer (2) is removed, the vehicle computer (1) remains fully functional for automatic capture by sensors and storage of data, and for controlling the vehicle peripherals. When the small computer (2) is connected to the vehicle computer (1), a printer (8) in the vehicle computer (1) outputs invoices, delivery notes, order confirmations, etc. For data transfer between the origin of the data and the accounting station, the small computer (2) itself, or optionally a memory module (9) which can be connected to the vehicle computer (1) or accounting station via an infra-red interface, is used. <IMAGE>
