A crate, especially a fish crate, consists of a base (1) and side walls (3 and 4) which project upwards from the base and are connected to one another, and drainage holes for leading off liquid from inside the crate are arranged at the transition between the side walls and the base. These drainage holes have the shape of a gap (7) which communicates with a vertical channel (6) formed in the side walls. Together with the gap (7), the channels (6) are shaped such that liquid coming from a channel in one crate in a stack of crates can flow on directly in a channel of any crate below it. Liquid from one crate is thus prevented from flowing down either into the contents of crates below it in the same stack or into crates of an abutting stack, as a result of which the possibility of storing iced fish under identical conditions, irrespective of where they are located in the stack, is improved considerably. <IMAGE>
