An electric hot-water storage heater is to be constructed such that it can be converted in a simple way from a single-circuit storage heater to a double-circuit storage heater. For this purpose, in each case one plug-in connection (6, 7) is provided between heating elements (13 to 16) and a temperature controller (3), which can be directly connected by means of an adapter for switching a single-circuit device, whereas for switching a low heating capacity in the low-tariff period and a high heating capacity for recharging, a contactor (8) is plugged between the first plug part (6) and the second plug part (7), instead of the adapter. <IMAGE>
