PURPOSE:To use a scanner and a printer by plural work stations by discriminating a connection request from a host computer and assigning a document holding means to an image reader or the host computer. CONSTITUTION:An image processing system is provided with work stations WS 6-9 to be plural host computers, a scanner 2 to be an image reader, a printer 3 to be an image recording device, and a multiplexer MPX5 to be a connection switching device. The scanner 2 is provided with a recycle document feeder RDF1 to be a holding means. In such constitution, the the MPX5 discriminates a connection request from the scanner 2 or the WSs 6-9 by a register 23 or WS interface parts 16-19 and connected the WSs 6-9 to the scanner 2 or the printer 3 and the scanner 2 to the printer 3 by switches 24, 25. The MPX5 selects the original tray of the RDF1 and the scanner 2 reads out a corresponding document.
