There exists a stand in which a hub (1) and an arm (2) form a unit, in which the arms (2) - on loading the hub (1) and supporting the end pieces (6) of the arms (2) - bend resiliently in a manner free from fracture with lowering (9) of the hub, and which consists of a thermoplastic plastic. In this case, it is desirable for the stand to have improved strength properties using simple means. This is achieved in that the hub (1) lowering (9) amounts to at least 4% of the stand diameter, in that hub (1) and arms (2) are constructed as a closed profile and the plastic, if a blowing agent-containing thermoplastic is used, has a cellular structure (11) with a solid outer skin (10). In an otherwise conventionally designed swivel chair with a stand according to the invention, the hub can be pushed through onto the floor without the stand fracturing. <IMAGE>
