The flexible manufacturing system has a workpiece pallet conveying installation (1) which comprises a single traversing section on which a conveying trolley (11) can be moved back and forth in the two opposite directions. Workpiece pallets (12) can be loaded onto or from the conveying trolley (11) at right angles to the traversing section. For this purpose, the conveying trolley (7) has its own conveying device (13) which is formed essentially from a roller drive with superimposed chain drive in order to cover distances which are as long as possible, despite the short design of the conveying trolley (11). <IMAGE>
