PURPOSE:To enable the correct measurement of the true electrophoretic mobility of colloidal particles by measuring the migration speeds of the fine particles consisting of the same material as the material for constituting the inside surface of a migration tube separately from the colloidal particles. CONSTITUTION:A sample soln. is prepd. by mixing the colloidal sample particles with a migration medium and a suspension is prepd. by mixing a small amt. of the fine particles of the same material as the material for constituting the inside surface of the migration tube with said soln. The suspension is then fed into the migration tube 4. Laser light 14 The visual field of the migration tube 4 is radiated with and an objective lens 8 is focused to the visual field, then the colloidal particles in the suspension and the fine particles of the material for constituting the inside surface of the migration tube are electrically migrated. The mobilities on electrophoretic mobilities thereof are measured in an optical measuring part 5 by a grating method. The apparent electrophoretic mobilities Vx, Vs calculated from the migration speeds of the colloidal sample particles and the fine particles of the material for constituting the inside surface of the migration tube are determined and the true electrophoretic mobility V of the colloidal sample particles is determined by making a calculation in accordance with the equation V=VX-1/2XVs. |
