By means of the installation of a cellular wheel sluice in a pressure vessel (11), the mechanism which presses the sealing plate(s) (6, 7) against the cellular wheel casing (3) can be dispensed with; the sealing pressure can even be intentionally reduced, which results in a reduction in abrasion and the drive power. In the case of an approximately horizontal cellular wheel axis (21), the cells (23) in the cellular wheel need to be open only on one side, and thus only one sealing plate (22) is now required. <IMAGE>
