PURPOSE:To improve purifying performance and to decrease ventilation resistance, by a method wherein beads are formed to the portions, positioned facing each other, of an outer cylinder, containing a metallic catalyst, and a catalyst case, containing the outer cylinder, and a heat insulating cushioning material is disposed between the outer cylinder and the catalyst case. CONSTITUTION:An outer cylinder 29 containing a metallic catalyst 31 is contained in a catalyst case 33. In this case, beads 35 are formed at inervals of a specified distance on the outer periphery of a catalyst case 33, and a bead 37 is also formed to the portion, positioned facing the bead 35, of the outer cylinder 29. A heat insulating cushioning material 39 is disposed between the outer cylinder 29 and the catalyst case 33. Thus, the outer cylinder 29 and the catalyst case 33 are engaged with each other through the beads 37 and 35, respectively, and the outer cylinder 29 is reliably prevented from axial movement. this constitution eliminates location of a cushioning material to the front part of the outer cylinder 29, resulting in prevention of closing of the exhaust gas inflow side of the metallic catalyst 31 and in the possibility to improve purifying performance and reduce ventilation resistance. |
