PURPOSE:To eliminate the uncertainty of operation by inputting an image signal which is outputted from a reader or sent out to a communication line through an encoder and a modulator at the time of transmission and displaying it on a display device. CONSTITUTION:When read image data is monitored, a switch 1 is placed at a side (a) to input the image data in an image line memory 12, line by line, and the data is displayed on the display device 14 by a display scanning driver 13. Further, when code data sent to the line 16 is monitored switches 1 and 3 are placed on sides (b) and the data sent out of the modulator 8 to the line 16 is inputted to a demodulator 9 which is normally used for reception and demodulated. The compressed code data is decoded by a decoder into one-line image data, which is inputted, line by line, to the image line memory, so that the data is displayed on the display device 14 by the display scanning driver 13. Consequently, the operation is performed without any certainty.
