PURPOSE:To detect the defect of a weighing instrument used for a combinational scale by comparing data on the weight of an article discharged from the combinational scale with data on the reweighed value of the discharged article. CONSTITUTION:The weights of articles in respective weighing hoppers 2-1-2-n are weighed by weighing parts 6-1-6-n and inputted to a microcomputer 8. The microcomputer 8 determines a combination of articles close to a target weight on the basis of weighing signals and stores the relation among the combinational weight, target weight, and an upper-limit weight. Then, the discharge gates of weighing hoppers corresponding to the combination are opened to gather articles in a check hopper 12 and the weight is measured by a weighing part 14 to find the relation between the target weight and upper-limit weight. If this relation is not coincident with said stored relation, the values in integrating means corresponding to the weighing hoppers from which the articles are discharged are increased by one. the weighing hopper corresponding to the integrating means having the largest value is judged to be defective.
