A heat exchanger with heat exchanger pipes, which at the end are held in a tube plate consisting of plastic, exhibits in its tube plates for each pipe connection holes for passage of the heat exchanger fluid. In the area of the holes, a connection pipe shaped like a sleeve is provided in each case, in which an annular groove is arranged extending coaxially to the hole and open towards the heat exchanger pipe. The holes have an elongated cross section with one longer and one shorter axis and the shape of the annular groove corresponds to the cross-sectional shape of the holes. A cross piece running approximately in the direction of the short axis between the parts of the connection pipes lying radially inside serves to support the side walls.
