PURPOSE:To obtain highly efficient and compact fluidized bed type combustion furnace by a method wherein the title furnace is provided with a crusher, crushing high-calorie sludge into grains whose size is capable of being carried, and a mean to supply the crushed high-calorie sludge directly into the fluidized sand bed in the furnace. CONSTITUTION:High-calorie sludge, sent from a hopper 1 into a crusher 3, is crushed so that the grain size of bulk materials becomes several mm or less, thereafter, is sent to an underfeed-feeder unit 4. The pulverized sludge, sent to the underfeed-feeder unit 4, the underfed into the main body of a combustion furnace by conveying air 5 through a conveying tube 6. A fluidized sand bed 8 is provided in the main body of the combustion furnace and a heat transfer tube 9 for controlling temperature is arranged in the fluidized sand bed while the pulverized sludge, supplied into the fluidized sand bed 8, is burnt by combustion air supplied from an air sending line 10 and produced gas is discharged to the outside of the system of the combustion furnace from a free port 6 in the furnace through an exhaust gas line 11 and an exhaust gas processing unit 12.
