PURPOSE:To provide items required for the formation of a document corresponding to a certain format by selecting a layout close to the image of the document to be formed. CONSTITUTION:When a layout constitution part 24 is started, layout information and an example sentence are read out from an external storage device 13 and the example of the layout is displayed on a display device 12. When an user selects the layout, the information is stored in a layout storage part 31 and control is transferred to an item formation part 25. The item formation part 25 extracts an item to be inputted by the user from the contents of the storage part 31 and stores the extracted item in a formation item storing part 32. A document data formation part 27 writes data corresponding to the inputted item through an input part 22 in a temporary buffer 33. A document data display part 28 edits the data corresponding to the item inputted to the buffer 33 on the basis of the information of the storage part 31 and displays the edited data on the display device 12.
