The wind turbine (10) for converting wind energy into other forms of energy, in particular into electrical energy, consists of a vertical rotor which has wind collecting blades (12, 14) with a cross-section resembling an air foil. The wind collecting blades (12, 14) can be arranged parallel to or diverging from the rotor axis (28). The rotor blades (12, 14) are constructed rigidly in a light metal design or as extruded profiles. The rotor axis (28) is mounted rotatably in a foundation (30) in which the generator for generating power is held. The wind collecting blades (12, 14) are constructed with a cross-section such as to provide wind accumulation surfaces for the wind, resulting in self starting of the turbine. <IMAGE>
