Process for the continuous dyeing of a sheet (web) of a thick-pile material. A preheated sheet of the material is pretreated with an aqueous solution of an adduct of phenol with ethylene oxide and then sprayed with a dyeing liquor containing alkylphenol (alkylphenyl) polyoxyethylene ethers. To set the pH the dyeing liquor has added to it a mixture of dicarboxylic acids. The material is dyed uniformly to the root of the pile without undyed regions. <IMAGE>
