The invention takes as departure point a ladder which is connected to a chimney or the like and has one or two strings and steps fastened thereon. In order to be able to mount said chimneys in a simple manner, in particular high chimneys, the ladder is assigned, according to the invention, a trolley-like device which exhibits a platform for one or more people, is guided on at least one longitudinal profile of the ladder, but, if appropriate, also on one or two strings of the ladder, and exhibits a drive, e.g. an enveloping drive, which is supported on the steps of the ladder and whose driver can be supported on the steps. An advancing or stepping mechanism may also be used for the drive.
