A perforated cylindrical polishing assembly is disposed in concentric relation to a rotatable shaft. The assembly inner circumferential surface cooperates with an outer circumferential surface of a polishing roll to define between them a polishing chamber. Partition walls engage with an outer circumterential surface of the assembly at a location below an axis of the shaft, for defining an upper space and a lower space. An air delivery device delivers air such that the air is introduced from the lower space into the polishing chamber through apertures and then to be introduced from the polishing chamber into the upper space through apertures.
